Heartbleed Bug

As many of you may have heard, a new Internet vulnerability, called Heartbleed, has been getting a lot of media attention over the last couple of days. Heartbleed is a serious defect in OpenSSL, the open-source software widely used to encrypt and protect communications on the Internet. This flaw has affected a large proportion of the Web servers on the Internet.

Volcano Communications has been working diligently to assess the impact of Heartbleed for our customers.  We are satisfied that all customer interfaces, both internal and those that rely on third-parties, are secure.

There is no immediate need to change any password that is used with Volcano services, however it’s always a good idea to change your passwords frequently and to make them sufficiently difficult to discover.

Additionally, some of our customers have received email from scammers, capitalizing on the Heartbleed media coverage, attempting to gather current passwords under the guise of “helping” customers to change their passwords.  Please use your usual vigilance and be extra wary with any of your personal information.

We will update you if there is any change in status or action required on your part with regard to this or any other security vulnerability. As always, our number one goal is to ensure a safe environment for all of our customers.
