POP3 or IMAP? Which should I choose?

Both POP3 and IMAP account types will work with Volcano.net email and you are welcome to choose either type. If you are not sure here are the features of each that can help you decide.

POP3

  1. Email downloaded to your computer or device.
  2. Mulitple devices can be configured with special settings to allow all devices to receive mail.
  3. Messages fully downloaded and may be slower than IMAP.
  4. Familiar if you are a Volcano.net user. We have used only POP3 until 2014.

IMAP

  1. Email is kept and stored on the email server.
  2. Mulitple devices can be easily configured to receive the same email.
  3. Only email headers are initially received, making IMAP faster than POP3.
