What To Do About Those Unwanted Landline Phone Calls

Resize

Here Are Some Tips...

Fake travel offers, sham investment opportunities, “registration” requests for supposed prizes, and phony vehicle warranty extensions. These are all examples of calls you may receive that come from scammers. Scam calls are often generated by “Robocallers” – automated calling systems. This problem is on the rise due to:

  • More advanced “call spoofing” – a fake name displays on your caller ID.

  • It is now easier and cheaper than ever for scammers to generate multiple calls.

  • International scammers are more sophisticated.

  • Improved voice recognition technology.

What you can do to reduce robocalls

  • Make sure you are on the national Do Not Call Lists. You can register for it by
visiting www.donotcall.gov. or by calling 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236),
from the number you wish to register.

  • Consider subscribing to calling features such as “Call Rejection” and
     “Anonymous Call Rejection”.

  • Utilize a “Call Blocker” device. Do an internet search for Landline Call
     Blocking devices.

How to report a suspected fraudulent call

If you receive a call and you suspect caller ID information has been falsified, or you
think the rules for protecting the privacy of your telephone number have been
violated, you can file a complaint with the FCC.

  • File a complaint online at https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov

  • By phone: 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322); TTY: 1-888-TELL-FCC
     (1-888-835-5322); ASL: 1-844-432-2275
