What is WUUA?

Western Underground Utilities Alert Inc. (WUUA) is a collaborative forum of utilities, contractors, and public agencies focused on safe excavation and underground utility damage prevention. We share best practices, coordinate on locates, and promote 811 awareness.

Representatives from industries including:

  • Telecommunications providers

  • Water and sanitary districts

  • Public works departments

  • Electric and gas utilities

  • Contractors and engineering firms

  • Damage prevention: Protecting underground utility lines through safe digging practices and public awareness.
  • Coordination: Connecting utilities and contractors to reduce project conflicts and service disruptions.
  • Training: Promoting education on safe excavation and 811 best practices.
  • 811 outreach: Increasing public awareness of the free 811 service—helping homeowners, contractors, and businesses know to call before they dig to protect lives and infrastructure.
